a lazy sunday with loved ones.

07/31/2005

The promise of saturday evening didnt disappoint. The soothing calm sunday morning started with a lazy reading of the ever traditional Hindu. Bhuvana painted it homely with a tea.

After the customary bout of morning sickness, bhuvana recovered... to pick an argument with Sunil(they call it brain storming. no wonder sunil had headache that morning). Believe me, it is uncomfortable to witness two loving fellos get to the ring to decide what is good for them. you are too familiar of this if you had stayed with your parents. Bhu suggests that sunil should discuss his results and analysis with doc committe members before presenting them in DC meetings. Sunil thinks that no member on DC except his guide has an idea of his work, hence it doesnt make sense to discuss with them. very persuasive arguments from both sides. Neither my not so well veiled attemts to divert them nor my attempts hinting Bhu to cool helped.

How long can it continue? afterall you cant fight with hunger. Bhu went to get some idly mauve and sunil to nurse his ill mood. little while later, the storms calm down and the mood becomes cheerful again. In the mean time there was a call from subbu that they want to visit sunil&bhu before they leave for pune. As shyam and subbu(S&S) dont know Sunil's house address, sunil and i went to the bus stop close by and waited for S&S. after a long wait, I get a call from Shyam that they are running short of time and that they may not be able to visit this time. Good jolly, that gives the morning for just three of us. On the way back we chance buy some fresh Tapioca. In the mean time, Bhu is ready with idly. Hmm, brk fst; so good that we almost finished the ones cooked in anticipation of S&S.
Sluggishness resulted of the heavy brk fst made us lie down and start pulling each other's legs. watching the two kids sunil and bhu having fun is one of the most satisfying things. slowly we drifted into sleep and it is already an hour past noon by the time we woke up. the day begins again. Bhu gets down to chekkifying tapioca (you should listen to bhu tamish to enjoy it) and cooking rest of the stuff for lunch. i keep my self busy eating sweets and helping bhu in between, while sunil is still fighting demons of DC (in sleep). I also learn the art of making rasam from Bhu. at 3 we have our lunch; again an excellent one. the preperation with Tapioca is superb. there is some thing in Bhu's hands. Her simple cooking seems to do magic on food. Then we start banter again, Bhu being the target this time- for her amazing talent to tell diplamatic answers to outsiders. (read the diplomatic as lies)

soon it is time for tea. and with tea we had sunil and bhuvana's reception video. Though the video itself was slightly boring for me as i cannot relate to most of folks in the video, it was nice to see the other two excitedly explaining things in the video and also the things not in the video. Their hearts remained in Trivandrum.

Late evening and we decide to hunt a cot for the couple. we set out in auto to an unknown territory and after a few enquiries for a particular furn shop, complete the deal with the furn chaps and start to return. on the way we see a temple where prasadam is being distributed and the child in bhu wakes up. warily i look at the watch and concede to her request that we get down there and get some prasadam. Thus we end up having amman prasadam that sunday evening. Sunil standing to his traits, gets some for the auto driver too and forces him to eat. cant imazine the plight of the auto driver. he can not refuse the prasadam afterall he might invite wrath of amman. Chennaites are too wary of ammans, Bhu included. :). that explains purutchi talaivi's dominance in tam politics.

when we reach home, i see that we did the job quickly and i have enough time to reach railway station. Any way time to part again. need to go to office on monday. euphemistic heavy heart in one hand and bag in another, i say bye to the two good souls. after some promises from each of us that we will keep in touch, that we will try to meet again asap i get into the bus D70 for Guindy.

This ends my version of trip to chennai for convo. Looking back, the trip looks as short as the paragraph above, which just had adieu; while there are several cherishable moments which i am sure will come in bits and pieces.

Hi Kiran

Welcome to the blogosphere. Nice piece. You probably cannot imagine the plight of the auto-driver, unless, you have seen movies like Aadi Velli which describe the fierce face of Amman towards non-believers. Even the slef-proclaimed atheist politicians do not take panga with her.
